About Mercer Island Concrete

Why We Do What We Do

Concrete is foundational work that literally supports the homes and neighborhoods we live in. When we look at a driveway, patio, or foundation, we see more than a surface—we see years of family use, seasonal stress, and the need for genuine durability.

We're passionate about concrete because we understand the stakes on Mercer Island. Freeze-thaw cycles cause surface scaling and spalling when concrete isn't properly specified and cured. Sloped lots demand engineered retaining walls. High water tables near Lake Washington require French drains and thoughtful drainage design. We get it because we work in these conditions year-round.

Always Learning, Always Improving

Concrete science evolves constantly. New additives for cold-weather curing, updated sealer technology, and refined placement techniques change how we work. We stay current because your concrete needs to perform in Mercer Island's 150+ rainy days annually.

This commitment goes beyond training classes. We study how Type II Portland Cement provides moderate sulfate resistance for specific soil conditions. We test penetrating sealers—silane and siloxane formulations—to understand which water repellent sealer performs best in our marine layer environment. We evaluate rebar placement and wire mesh positioning because we know strength depends on proper installation, not just materials.

Our Values and Mission

We operate on straightforward principles: honest communication about what your concrete actually needs, transparent pricing, and work that meets local code and Design Commission standards where applicable.

Our mission is delivering skilled concrete services that enhance Mercer Island properties while respecting the neighborhood character—whether that's period-appropriate walkways for 1920s Tudors, board-formed finishes for contemporary homes, or drainage solutions that handle glacial till soils and high water tables.

Meet the Team

Our crew consists of experienced concrete professionals who understand Mercer Island's unique demands. We've worked on mid-century rambler aggregate driveways, luxury estate heated decks, seismic retrofit foundations, and shoreline-compliant work within protected zones. We know the neighborhoods from First Hill to Forest Ridge.

Our leadership brings decades of concrete and construction experience in King County. We understand local soil conditions, seasonal challenges, and what it takes to build concrete that lasts through Pacific Northwest winters.

Our Story

Mercer Island Concrete started from recognizing a genuine need. This community has incredible homes with demanding concrete requirements—steep slopes, high water tables, Design Commission oversight, and specific HOA finishes. Property owners deserve contractors who understand these challenges.

We began serving Mercerwood, The Lakes, and Island Crest, building relationships with homeowners who needed reliable work and straight answers. Those early projects taught us that Mercer Island concrete isn't generic—it requires site-specific solutions.

Today we continue serving the island because more properties need reliable concrete work. We're not chasing growth for its own sake. We're here because concrete done right matters.

The Standards We Follow

We adhere to concrete industry standards and local King County building code. Our approach includes proper rebar placement—rebar must be in the lower third of the slab to resist tension loads, positioned 2 inches from the bottom using chairs or dobies. Wire mesh only works if it stays mid-slab during the pour, not if it gets pulled to the surface.

We prioritize curing because concrete gains 50% of its strength in the first 7 days, but only if kept moist. We apply curing compound immediately after finishing or maintain wet conditions with plastic sheeting for at least 5 days. Concrete that dries too fast reaches only 50% of its potential strength.

Serving the Mercer Island Community

We're Mercer Island–based and focused on serving this community long-term. We understand Design Commission requirements, setback constraints, neighborhood character, and soil conditions specific to each area from North Mercer to the South End.

Being local means we're invested in our reputation. We're the company you might see at Luther Burbank Park or the Mercer Island Town Center. That accountability drives how we work on every driveway, patio, and repair.
